Dr. Inverardi joins us to discuss the recent announcement by Diabetes Research Institute regarding their BioHUB mini organ to restore insulin production in people with type 1 diabetes. The annoucement of this news begins "Scientists from the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) at the University of Miami are taking a quantum leap toward a biological cure for diabetes by unveiling the DRI BioHub, a bioengineered “mini organ” that contains lifesaving insulin-producing cells that can sense blood sugar and release the precise amount of insulin needed in real time." Read the rest! Then join us to discuss it further with one of the scientists working on the project.
Luca Inverardi, M.D., is Research Professor of Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. In addition, he serves as Deputy Director of Translational Research at the Diabetes Research Institute.
Much of Dr. Inverardi’s research interests lie in developing ways to make biological replacement of insulin-producing tissue reproducibly successful in a large cohort of patients.
This area of investigation focuses on a broad range of basic research experiments in the areas of transplant immunology, tolerance induction and cytoprotection, as well as diabetes stem cell research and immunogenetic studies to prevent diabetes.
His division is comprised of multi-disciplinary scientists working in the areas of molecular biology, immunology, pancreatic stem cell development, pathology and immunogenetics.

Even though the red tape gets thicker and thicker.
The business' that thrive in our society can never be allowed to fold.
My understanding was that monies were to be infused into research programs after your president was elected first time around .
The economic world problems will hold back funding once again.
Many mountains to climb.
Never stop hoping:)))
