Ode to Dex
Together on perilous adventure
Applied to my skin these short and dark days.
For five weeks faithful through frigid winter.
Today was your last, a sensor exchanged.
A careful count of your days, thirty five-
December Sunday preparing Advent.
A tool, nay a friend, helps keep me alive
for you are ever, always, vigilant.
You had more life in you, of this I’m sure.
Your life beyond expectation, our hope.
In this journey, we could ask for no more.
While walking this diabetes tightrope.
I raise a glass high in deep gratitude
for those who made you, devotion renewed.
