So, ya know, food and nutrition is one of my favorite topics
Coconut oil is high in omegas as well as caprylic acid (a natural antibacterial and antiviral) Research indicates that it supports brain function. I cook with it, and I also "oil pull" with it. I used to have periodontitis as one of the complications of high blood sugars, and I have totally reversed it by oil pulling with coconut oil. Here's a link on the topic: http://www.webmd.com/oral-health/features/oil-pulling
On the topic of canola oil: From my research, it does matter if it is GMO. GMO foods have round-up added into the molecular structure of the grain to make it pest resistant... not a good thing at all for the human microbiome. Unless canola oil says "organic" or "gmo" free, it is GMO. Coconut oil is a great alternative, imho.
