I never knew what Cellulitis was until Cynthia started this thread. I'm so grateful I've never suffered this.
I grew up in a "medical family", and have trained for Advanced First Aid from the Red Cross (next step would be EMT training, but that was never my path). As a result, I have very thorough wound-care practices.
It's always been a curiosity how little most people know about proper wound care, as the principles are pretty simple: Keep it clean and sterile, use an antibiotic ointment, change dressings at least once a day.
I'm a big fan of the tegaderm-based coverings... Nexcare sealing bandages, used to be called Cleanseal. If carefully applied with some antibiotic sealed well, wounds will heal very nicely. Large sheets of Tegaderm can be had and used over gauze pads for larger areas.
The key is keeping it sterile, which Tegaderm works wonders accomplishing.
