We often forget how highly regulated they are and they are required to maintain cash reserves to cover potential liabilities among other things. No, I don't side with them and I like them as little as anyone else, but they are more of a symptom than a cause for the sky rocketing costs. Remember any insurance is just that. It is there to limit your loss, whether it be health, auto, life or home. You are placing a bet that you will use more than you pay for. If that happened with all of their customers they would not be able to make all the pay outs. The government would shut them down. The only way to control insurance costs is to control medical and legal costs, including drugs.
