Aloha TuDiabetes Friends!
I just wanted to post a quick update on my status and life after cancer. So here we go... I am officially cancer free!
I actually hesitate in saying that... It makes me a bit nervous to declare my new health status but I had my first follow-up cat scan and it came back N.E.D. (no evidence of disease). I had to wait three days for the results. It was a very long three days. Needless to say I was overcome with joy to hear the results. Having cleared my cat scan, my doctor said it was ok to have my chemo port removed. One week ago it was taken out. It had been embedded in my chest for the past 9 months. I'm happy to see it go!
Generally speaking life is good! I certainly have a new found appreciation for it. This new appreciation for life interestingly enough has made it a bit difficult to get back to what use to be my 'normal' life. I've been feeling a sense of urgency to make the very most of every day which can sometimes lead to disappointment... There really is no going back to life as usual once you are a cancer survivor. I am very happy with my new life just seeing things from a different perspective which takes some getting use to.
I'm also dealing with some residual side affects. About a month after chemo neuropathy set in. I have a lot of numbness and tingling in my fingers and some in my feet. It's a side effect of the drug oxaliplatin. My doctor said that it should resolve over the next year or two... I really hope it does.
Well that is all for now folks. I hope everyone in everyone in tudiabetes community is doing well. Thank you for your continued support!
