My gf works for an insurance company.... Go figure. It all depends on the insurance coverage your company or you have negotiated with the insurance. For whatever reason her particular insurance balked at two prandial insulins being covered at once. In the end it worked out well for her, though going to basal from pump if a wild 10 day ride. She loves not being hooked up to anything. This is the basis of her resistance to a CGM. I know it would help her immensely.
I am so much on agreement about keeping bean counter out of medical decisions. It infuriates me that step therapies instituted by insurance, have nothing to do with health outcomes, but instead are based on back room deals between pharma and insurance.
Mike Hoskins has written a few nice articles on the subject. It my hope we can keep Afrezza alive because it has given her and a1c improvement of 1.0 which = 10 years of diabetes complication free survival. That's a BIG DEAL! I'm happy to help anyone transition in any way I can because that is a big obstacle. Though we love Afrezza I honestly don't think we would have transitioned successfully wout the help of Sam Finta and others on Twitter.
Have you guys ever considered an Afrezza transition support thread on this site? We have learned so much, not experts, but happy to help anyone who has questions.
