I have found a very interesting piece of information from Gary Scheiner's book Think Like A Pancreas that has really helped me in fine tuning my son's basals.
However, my soon to be 10 year old does not fit into these guidelines, and he never has. His basal rates are as follows:
6:00-7:00 am .50
7:00-8:00 am .55 (sugar rises for an hour after waking at 8:00)
8:00-9:00 am .50
9:00-12:00 pm .35
12:00 pm- 1:00 am .40
1:00 am-6:00 am .35
I know these are just guidelines that everyone don't fit into, but I am a little curious about his insulin needs dropping low between 2:00 am and 7:00 am. According to this it is supposed to be higher. Come to think of it, I remember my endo telling us a few years back that my son was his only patient whose insulin needs decreased at night. Anyone else experience this too?
