I have a son who was diagnosed w T1 a year ago 6/20, when he was 6. Initially I followed all the Dr and educators said until I said ENOUGH!! After 2 months of insulin we rarely need it any more. Our AC1 are always around 7 or lower. Our system has been to diet and exercise. Now diet means lean poteins, vegi of all kinds but lots of raw that includes tomatoes and avocados, very little fruit and little grain carbs. My son plays competitve baseball two years up in age, not because he is big, that's for sure. One time being a chef has alowed me to create recipes that use Stevia in cookies with Almond flour, pizza with Almond and regular flour, so that Sporty (son's nick name) does not miss out on anything. The only thing that my son misses in his diet are the foods and processed foods that he should not eat anyway.
