Just got this iPhone case from the folks at Sanofi to try it out with their iBGStar (which they also gave me at no cost to try out). I was glad to see the case put out by Sanofi, considering it was one of the first issues I encountered with the iBGStar: that the meter wouldn't connect properly with the iPhone if you were using a case for the phone (at least with mine the thickness of the case prevented the meter to plug in all the way).
So many people have written about the iBGStar (read the Diabetes mine review here, and the Diatribe review here), that I figured instead I'd take the chance to share my thoughts about this accessory.
* You carry the iBGStar with you at all times: the fact that your phone is something that you have with you at all times makes this meter (and now the ability to have it plugged to your phone while both are safely protected from the hardships of falls and bumps), makes this accessory a very important component of the diabetes management experience for all people who have the iBGStar in their insurance company formularies.
* You cannot charge the iPhone AND the have the iBGStar at the same time. If you have the iBGstar plugged in (and the case on the phone + meter together), you cannot charge your phone, only your meter via the mini-USB cable. As a first iteration of the case (and the iBGStar), I am hopeful future versions will take this factor into account, so as to make it unnecessary for iPhone users who use the iBGStar to unplug the meter at any point to charge their phones.
Correction: I just tried the mini USB cable plugging it into the USB port of my computer and the wall adapter and it is charging both, the iBGStar AND the iPhone. I guess the USB port in my car where I was plugging it in didn't have enough power to charge both devices.
* OK, here's an actual con after two days of using the case: the back portion snaps in but is not as tight as the top portion (which slides in fairly tightly). Not terrible, but a con nevertheless.
