I think this is a great effort, but I have a great deal of concerns about the way this issue is framed. I think the view that this is a T1 problem is misguided. There are more people with T2 taking insulin than T1. And those with T2 are often hit even worse with this problem. Consider that a vial of U-500 which is essentially generic now costs over $1000.
I also think we don't appreciate how we got into this situation. Lobbying was able to insert key provisions into laws that reduced or eliminated the ability to negotiate prices. Without true competition companies could set prices in an unfettered fashion. I hear the claims that our federal government will be bringing things back to the people, but this is not what I see. Instead I see businessmen and lobbyists running into the vacuum. I would not expect them to be very receptive to advocacy for the changes we want. I think advocacy will need to change to be more grass roots.
