I was diagnosed when I was in deep deep DKA at age 14. I was happy to know that I wasn't going to keep on dying, I was going to get insulin and I was going to get better. Literally... I was going in and out of consciousness and knocking on death's door.
I never thought I was too healthy for diabetes because I never knew what diabetes was until then. If I was too healthy why did I spend two weeks in the hospital hooked up to IV's recovering from DKA.
Obviously, those who started the acceptance process differently than me... may have had more acceptance challenges than me.
