TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

Can you name some famous people with diabetes? I know a few: Mary Tyler Moore (of course), Bret Michaels... They don't have to be movie stars, maybe sports figures, authors, musicians, singers, NASCAR...?

Who was the actress that played on Designing Women with the blond hair? She too has diabetes.

Elliot Yamin (American Idol... actually met him at a restaurant in Beverly Hills and didn't know who he was), Elizabeth Perkins (actress on Weeds)...

I didn't know that. Wow.

Oooooh. I am envious.

I'm not the sort of person who gets into celebrities, but I love Elliott Yamin.

He does a lot of volunteer work for JDRF.

Elizabeth Perkins also starred in Big with Tom hanks

I did not think it was Jean Smart I thought it was Delta Burke. She was the one that was the beauty queen.

Jean Smart has Type 1, and Delta Burke has Type 2.

The actress on Designing Women is Jean Smart.

There's Bobby Clarke, and there's another NHL hockey player who has diabetes and I can't remember his name off the top of my head.

Hey you are right in her name. I had a video my doctor gave me and she was promoting her story and the product at the time. I don't remember the product now. Thank you Rainbow Goddess, that was driving me crazy!

Halle Barry, anybody? Oh wait, her diabetes cured itself. :-)

Really?

Oh no-I'm almost POSITIVE that Halle Barry is Type 1. A VERY high protein diet with a great deal of exercise will greatly lower your insulin requirements, to almost NOTHING -however-the protein is also kidney failure just waiting in the wings

True enough, and lack of carbohydrates is hard on the brain, too. But I can't believe she's type 1, she's got to be type 2--if she were type 1, she'd be producing no insulin at all, and there's no way ANYONE is going to survive long without insulin, even on a super-low carb diet. She'd be passing out left, right and center.

Although, it would explain why she's so skinny... Easy to stay skinny if you're type 1 and not taking insulin, because you just pee away all your sugars, no fat gets stored... of course, you also eventually become blind, comatose, and have your extremities amputated... kind of a major drawback... particularly for a celebrity...
