"Word In Your Hand" Project for World Diabetes Day, Nov. 14

Leading up to World Diabetes Day (Nov. 14), we are preparing a project called "Word In Your Hand" . It's VERY EASY to participate.

1) Write a word in your hand describing how you feel about diabetes.
2) Take a photo, showing the hand with the word.
3) Add it to the Photos here in TuDiabetes.
4) Enter the tag "word" to the photo.

Optional (for people with Flickr accounts):
5) If you have a Flickr account, join the TuDiabetes.com group there (http://www.flickr.com/groups/tudiabetes/) and add the photo to the TuDiabetes.com Pool (read instructions on how to do it, here).

6) Last, post a reply in this topic when you are done adding the photo either to TuDiabetes Photos or to Flickr.

It doesn't matter where you take the picture. It can be in your kitchen, office, garden, who cares? Just tell the world how you feel and help spread awareness about Diabetes.

The goal is to collect as many photos as possible. They will become a part of a video we will produce to be pushed through as many possible media outlets leading up to World Diabetes Day.

MUSICIANS IN THE COMMUNITY
Please contact me (manny at tudiabetes dot org) to let me know if you want to contribute a song to go with the video.

If you can help spread the word about the project, feel free to reuse the banner Andreina created for it:

No worries (Denise, Heidi): "Thunderstruck" and "Expensive" are in here, so they are getting counted. The Flickr thing is optional.

However, if you HAVE a Flickr account and want to add the photo to the TuDiabetes.com group there:
1) Make sure to join the Fliickr group: http://flickr.com/groups/tudiabetes
2) Once you have, go to the photo you want to add and above it you will find an option labeled "Send to Group": click on it and you will find TuDiabetes.com in there. Just select it and hit OK.

DONE! :)
Just added the project to the World Diabetes Day Events List (pending approval):

Drum roll.... Winner(s) to be announced shortly (yes: there will be more than one winner this week!) :D
OK, this week the selection was very hard. We went back to the start of the project and took a hard look at all the submissions and here's what we came back with.

We picked a winner from the start of the project to date and four other second runner-ups.

The winner for this period is Beth (with the word "Balance"):

You can choose between one of the two books or a limited edition fine print by Andreina, who gracefully volunteered it. The piece will be printed on Somerset Velvet fine art paper and can be as large as 18x12, depending on the proportions of piece you choose among the following:

The second runner-ups for this period are:

Chuck Lin (with the word "Humor"):

Lea B (with the word "Scary"):

Tracey Wilson (with the word "Draining"):

AND

Sarah Russo (with the word "Growing"):

The second runner-ups have a choice among the same limited edition fine prints listed above, but the pieces would be 9x9 or 7.5x10, depending on the proportions of the piece selected.

All the photos will be highlighted on a collage to appear in the home page during the entire week. Congrats to the winners and to EVERYBODY who posted!!

Let's keep those photos coming, people!! We have four more weeks of excitement before the end of the project. We're over 1,000 members and we've only seen less than 100 photos so far, and some members have contributed more than one already.
Wow! Thanks so much!
Sorry I haven't been around much. So many things have been going on. I'm going to make a blog entry- but my hubby is going through a lot with his diabetes and just had a nerve conduction test and cat scan. Things aren't looking too good- any positive thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated.

I hope you all had a great weekend. Thanks again, for such an honor :)
Hey all,

A little slow on the uptake over here, but I finally submitted a WiyH photo, both in the Flickr pool and in the TuDiabetes photo database on this site. Since most post it here as well... well I'll be a lemming I guess.

Kanji for "Dauntless" or "Fearless"
Gorgeous.
How awesome to be selected! Thank you Manny and Andreina :)

Now, which beautiful piece of art to choose?

Here is mine. I don't have any good image editing software on here so the word was "handwritten" via mouse. :)
Cool! Really like the background :-)
I just uploaded another that I edited (has nicer writing).
As we approach the end of the second week, since we started giving prizes away for the best photo of the week, let's continue to spread the word about the project.
