Leading up to World Diabetes Day (Nov. 14), we are preparing a project called "Word In Your Hand" . It's VERY EASY to participate.

1) Write a word in your hand describing how you feel about diabetes.
2) Take a photo, showing the hand with the word.
3) Add it to the Photos here in TuDiabetes.
4) Enter the tag "word" to the photo.

Optional (for people with Flickr accounts):
5) If you have a Flickr account, join the TuDiabetes.com group there (http://www.flickr.com/groups/tudiabetes/) and add the photo to the TuDiabetes.com Pool (read instructions on how to do it, here).

6) Last, post a reply in this topic when you are done adding the photo either to TuDiabetes Photos or to Flickr.

It doesn't matter where you take the picture. It can be in your kitchen, office, garden, who cares? Just tell the world how you feel and help spread awareness about Diabetes.

The goal is to collect as many photos as possible. They will become a part of a video we will produce to be pushed through as many possible media outlets leading up to World Diabetes Day.

MUSICIANS IN THE COMMUNITY
Please contact me (manny at tudiabetes dot org) to let me know if you want to contribute a song to go with the video.

If you can help spread the word about the project, feel free to reuse the banner Andreina created for it:

this is how i feel some times what with all the needles and test strips that i handle everyday.
WOW. This took my breath away...

Here's my photo. When I asked my 5 year old, Riley, to describe in one word how diabetes made him feel he said "sad". This photo was taken just after he drank a juice box for a low of 59. You can see the low on his face.

In the Hinduism religion, Surya is the sun. One type of mudra is a form of yoga for the hands, believed to be beneficial to a variety of conditions, dependent upon the position enacted. My intent is not to worship the sun, or to magically cure my diabetes (or lose weight, or any other claim to healing... ) but to remind myself that like the light which separates us from the darkness, diabetes is made visible to me every day, and, too, it separates me from those without the condition. I like to respond to the congenial, "How are you?" with "Any day I wake up is a good day." Even with diabetes, waking up to the light of a new day is a "good thing." And, hey, if I benefit from the stimulation of the nerves in the fingertips, I won't complain (though my arthritic hands sure have trouble with this position).

since i've only recently been diagnosed, i believe this is my hand: Always Learning.
It was an amazing week for the "Word in Your Hand" project. Here are the results for the Children's Week in the "Word In Your Hand" project here at TuDiabetes: all of them used very powerful words.

We had 2 winners:
Vonda K's son (with the word "Hurt"):

Once you do, make sure to contact me (manny at tudiabetes dot org) with the name of the piece you want and the type of paper you want it on (they are available in Lustre, Matte and Glossy paper). We will mail you the 8x8 Inch print of your choice.

We also had these 5 VERY special mentions who are ALSO winners, because they touched us very deeply with their words:
Brandon (with the word "Annoying"):

There were two other children who posted their words who were past winners: that is the reason they are not getting a prize this week. ;)

Grown-Ups:
All of you who posted this past week are automatically qualified for the last week's Photo of the Week.

We have one more week to go before we stop collecting photos for the video. If you haven't participated yet, make sure to do so: you have until this coming Sunday to do so.
I got a few on Flickr.com.
Here is one of them:

Hand all

Hi,
My word is Inspired! I'm always challenging myself to cook better and healthier- so I thought my hand covered with flour was a good picture :)

Manny - Here is mine. Thanks for doing this. :) Nicole
I really enjoyed doing this; it gave me a real sense of power. I figure, life's what you make it, so here's my submission.

i love seeing the cool new hands!
