I have always been amused how people profess to be "beleivers", and then separate themselves into various churches / denominations. Out of curiosity, what type of church, or denomination, do you attend? What do you particulary like about your church?

As for me, I left the Presbyterian Church (PCA) in 10/06, and now attend a non-denominational church. I thoroughly enjoy my new church, where our worship service is a true celebration of God's grace in our lives.

I am a member of a Southern Baptist Church. Always have been, but that is not the reason I still am. I believe the doctrine of Southern Baptists is right on. I'm not saying that Southern Baptists always do it right, as no one is perfect. I am saying that Southern Baptist doctrine follows my beliefs more closely than any other denomination. I believe that "denominations" are a great downfall of Christians. It comes down to legalism. There are little things that keep us separated and I truly believe that there are some denominations that are going to be surprised to find other denominations in heaven. I can't wait to see the look on their faces either. Won't it be fun!!!!! When we all come together and have one big church service (non-denominational, of course) in heaven. Oh, I also love my church because we are a service church and we have a "blended" worship service. Of course, it helps that my husband plays the drums in the worship service too!!!!
I grew up Christian. My family attends a non-denominatinal church called Sovereign Grace Church (Illinois). It's part of a group of churches called Sovereign Grace Ministries. The main church is in Gathersburg, Maryland (Covenant Life Church). Most people have not heard of Sovereign Grace Ministries, though they have heard of the men who have started it and/or played a big part in the chuch. These men are Josh Harris and C.J. Mahaney. I'm pretty sure that we are also in close relations with John Piper.

Anyways, we've been going to this church for 4 years... and it's been the best four years of my life! I've changed so much... and I know that I'll never leave this church. If for some reason, we have to move... we know we'll seek another Sovereign Grace church.

If any of you are interested in Sovereign Grace Ministries, check out this website: http://www.sovereigngraceministries.org/

I have so much to say about this church... but... I don't think there's enough time in the world to express how much it means to me! I'm daily in awe at how much this church has helped me with my relation with God.

Anyways, if any of you go to a Sovereign Grace church... let me know!!!
Hello, I'm new...so here goes. I have been a Believer for more than 30 years and a diabetic for 3 years. I do not belong to any organized church, so that makes me a member of one with God (with my sister,...she's the second "member" of the same group. The reason of not being a member of an organized church....too many people believe in a "building fund" and not enough for the "benevolence fund". That is the bottom line of reality. I'm also a deaf woman and wear a pacemaker. Not many people are going to want such a disabled person around in their "church". But diabetes is another matter and the most challenging trial to date. I have much more to say, but I have a most favorite verse to share, concerning Jesus Christ: In I John 2:22-24. NAS One doesn't need a "church" to glorify God.
I am in a Fundamental Independent Baptist Church to be exact, but I do not agree with everything the Church believes. I didn't come from a Christian home so I had to find a Church that fit for me on my own after I became a Christian. I've been to Pentacostal and Non-denominational Churches. I think the most important thing is finding a place where God gives you peace and where they believe the key important principles: Salvation by grace through faith in Christ, you can't lose your salvation, and doctrine or beliefs rooted in Scripture. The trouble is that leaders in Church are human and may not always chose to obey God or listen to His Spirirt, but I think God will reveal this just like he did for you. People who think the only "way" is through their Church are missing the point because Jesus is the only way.

Hebrews 10:24-26 (Amplified Bible)
24And let us consider and give [a]attentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up (stimulate and incite) to love and helpful deeds and noble activities,

25Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers], as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching.

26For if we go on deliberately and willingly sinning after once acquiring the knowledge of the Truth, there is no longer any sacrifice left to atone for [our] sins [no further offering to which to look forward].
I go to a church that is Southern Baptist. For me the denomination is not as important as the teachings. I want a church that teaches straight from the Bible. I just got back yesterday from West Africa on a Missions trip. I am so thankful that God protected both me and my insulin.
I am a retired Baptist pastor. My wife and I serve at Wild Rose Baptist Church. Our son, Dr. Scott Jones, is the pastor. Our church is in fellowship with the Wisconsin Fellowship of Baptist Churches. There are about 100 in this fellowship.

Travis, the reason there are so many flavors of believers is that though all true believers are trusting in the finished work of Christ only through His death, burial, and resurrection, many interpret the rest of the whole counsel of God in a variety of ways. Therefore, they practice their Christianity differently. We shouldn't fuss too much about how others practice true Christianity. When Christ returns in the air, which could be today, those who are truly His will meet Him in the air with all the other true believers. (I Thess. 4:13-18). That's why when many of us true believers part, we say, "See you here, there or in the air."
Not really a specific denomination per se, however I am protestant. Free gospal, full gospal, pentecostal, um... the woods. Basically, it's wherever I am comfortable. lol
ok i'll be the odd duck of the bunch so here it goes. i was born and raised in the mormon church and i love it. this is a great place for discussion. :D
I think this is a SUPERB place to learn about our differences, and to celebrate our similarities. Only through knowing more about each other, can we begin to accept and respect one another.
MelissaM:

I find it interesting that you are referring yourself as the odd duck of the bunch. I will admit that I have seen no other posters being in the Mormon church. I also am not in the Mormon church. Why do you consider yourself the odd duck? As you mentioned, this place is great for discussion....I would be happy to chat with you. Maybe we can communicate via email.

If you claim odd duck status I believe I am too. :-) I am a Wisconsin Lutheran. I had grown up everything except Lutheran. I remember early on I went with my mom as a young child to a Presbyterian church. With the Lord's help I finally focused on more of the doctrinal teachings and have gained a lot of insight for current teaching. I have some questions for a good many churches out there. I feel a lot of times people dont really care about searching or really wrestling with things.
