As some of you may know, Elliott Yamin, of American Idol fame, has a type 1 diabetes and wears an insulin pump.

I am going to have the opportunity to interview him next week and I would like to know if there is anything you would like me to ask him.

Please post the questions here BEFORE this Friday, so I can assemble the question list by then.

I will publish the interview here in TuDiabetes in the course of next week.

Well I always want to know how long everyone has been diabetic, oh, and of course what was his last A1C? What type of pump does he use and for how long has he been pumping? Has he ever had a low while performing? Is he interested in using the CGMS?

Okay this next one is odd, but here goes. I notice he sweats a lot while he performs and if I am on the lower end of the good range of bgs, I start to sweat with exercion (sp), sooooo does he sweat a lot because of his bgs changing?? You don't have to ask if you think too odd., but he does sweat a lot. ;)

Also on 10/6/07, a girl that I work with saw him in Chicago, and she met up with him backstage and she got a picture with him, does he remember Molly? ;)
Hey Manny,
I remember watching him on AI asn he was so close to his Mother.. Is she diabetic too? How is she doing I know she was in poor health while taping the show.. Just wanted to know.
Thanks,
Larry
I've been a huge fan of Eliott's since watching him on AI. Note that there are TWO Ts at the end of his name!

No questions, really. But do tell him how much I appreciate the way he's gone public with his diabetes. I also worry sometimes that the intensity of his schedule might make it hard to keep in control. No amount of fame is worth ruining your body, so tell him that those of us who love what he does and have diabetes ourselfs want him to take care of himself and if that means taking time out, do it!
Thanks for pointing that out! :)

I made the correction and I will make sure to comment to him about your concern.
I really have no question for him but please tell him that I love the way he has gone public with his disease and he is an insperation to all the kids out there that will get this and think they have to "hide" it from others to be part of the circle of popular ppl! And to the adults also!
Hey! Let Elliott know that there are those of us out here who loved him BEFORE it was mentioned that he had diabetes (the diabetes just made me love him more). I'd really like to know if he read the AI message boards during his season of AI? I read some of them and was appalled by the ignorance of the masses regarding insulin pumps and diabetes in general. I'd also like to know how long he has been on an insulin pump and how many times per day he checks his blood sugars on average.
Thanks, and I hope you have lots of fun interviewing Elliott. He seems like a great person!
Elliott, I was rooting for you all the way (and still am)! As for questions....

Do you run your blood sugars a little high going into a performance to avoid lows? What adjustments if any do you make to you basal rates before/during a performance? Does the adrenaline tend to drive your BG up or down? Is it hard to distinguish between the nervousness associated with the performance and a low? Has that gotten easier for you?

I always wondered those things as I watched idol. Thanks for the opportunity to ask.
Just wanted to let everyone know I published the interview with Elliott Yamin yesterday, for World Diabetes Day:
