From USA Today:
"A new study shows that the nation's unchecked diabetes epidemic exacts a heavy financial toll as well: $174 billion a year.

That's about as much as the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and the global war on terrorism combined. It's more than the $150 billion in damage caused by Hurricane Katrina."

Your thoughts? What needs to change in the US so we can put an end to the current diabetes (type 2) epidemic?

What has to end is having this kind of crap be repeated endlessly by a medical press that never checks out a word in the press releases sent by people with agendas. .

Most of the "cost" of diabetes is the cost of paying for treatment for end stage kidney disease and amputations that could be completely prevented if poor people in this country had access to health care.

But the people who want to cut spending love to blame people with diabetes for being so expensive, instead of facing the fact that they ARE expensive because they get no care or poor care until they are 30 years in.
