Announcement Received Directly from JDRF:

Beginning today, children between the ages of four and 17 can apply to be delegates for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s signature Children’s Congress program that will take place June 19-22 in Washington, DC.

Preparing for its seventh session, Children’s Congress is a biennial event that enables 150 kids representing every state and the District of Columbia to join JDRF spokespeople as they deliver testimony before a Senate Subcommittee hearing.  The Children that are selected to go will have an opportunity to present their own testimony at the hearing, meet with their senator or representative and meet the JDRF spokespeople.  Last year, the delegates also had the privilege of meeting President Obama on the South Lawn of the White House.

This is a rare and unique opportunity to put a face on a disease that not everyone full understands.  The delegates that are asked to testify to Congress will be telling the government how diabetes has affected their lives.  They will explain the seriousness of type 1 diabetes and the importance of research in making their lives better and putting an end to the disease that affects them.

If you or your child is interested in applying, forms can be downloaded at www.cc.jdrf.org.  The forms are available beginning today and submissions will be accepted until October 4 at 5 PM-EDT.
