Big Blue Test Now Accepting Grant Applications to Help People with Diabetes In Need

PRESS RELEASE
Five US$10,000 grants to be given to US-based 501(c)(3) organizations for lifesaving supplies, medical tests, treatment, and patient education

BERKELEY, CA:  August 13, 2012 – Diabetes Hands Foundation seeks grant applications for 2012 Big Blue Test Grants. These grants, available to 501(c)(3) organizations, are aimed at helping people living with diabetes who are in need by providing lifesaving supplies, medical tests, treatment, and patient education.

“This year we are seeking to touch more people with diabetes in need than ever with the Big Blue Test,” said Manny Hernandez, President of Diabetes Hands Foundation. “Every single Big Blue Test result recorded online at www.BigBlueTest.org translates directly into grant funding for patient care. Our goal for 2012 is to have 20,000 test results recorded online—more than double last year’s goal.”

Scheduled during the month leading up to World Diabetes Day (November 14th), the Big Blue Test is both a diabetes awareness event and an opportunity for everyone, whether touched by diabetes or not, to make a difference in the lives of those in need living with diabetes.

With the Big Blue Test Grant, the Diabetes Hands Foundation will provide US$10,000 to five US-based 501(c)(3) organizations and US$25,000 to two non-profit organizations overseas. These grants are made possible through the sponsorship of Roche Diabetes Care, makers of ACCU-CHEK® diabetes products and services.

There are two parts to the Big Blue Test:

[1] A worldwide event aimed at getting people to exercise (even a little bit) so that they can see the positive effect exercise has on their blood glucose levels, and
[2] A grant for non-profit organizations that help people with diabetes who are in need.
