i recently started working with a great endo(we speak EVERY day!)who is kind of mystified by some of my readings, we've cut my levemir in half to 4 & 4, coverage from 2 to 6(carbs from 1-12 to 1-15). i'm very cooperative, measure stuff etc., he suggested i may have insulin antibodies which i'd never heard of. i looked it up, & although it seems to be associated with insulin resistance which i obviously don't have, it would explain a lot for me. not much i can do but getting up at 6 to test has been very helpful. wish i could get a cgm!!! just venting, it's like i can try as hard as i want & nothing i can really do. although trying is always better than not trying. sigh, just had some cherries for a post breakfast 37, at least i didn't lose the day.

Permalink Reply by Joni on February 2, 2013 at 12:05pm Hello there, Baby Peanut. Like your name. I noticed what you were saying about the brittle thing and I can relate.
Have you had your thyroid checked?
My story is pretty long, but after a lot of other things that did not seem to apply appropriately, it is possible that a really smart doc has found my problem to be focused around thyroid dysfunction.
Hope it helps you!
Permalink Reply by Baby Peanut on February 2, 2013 at 1:01pm thanks joni, i was dx'd with hypo thyroid about 10 years ago, am taking synthroid for that. but it's great that people are putting various potential 'culprits' for uncontrollable diabetes, if i don't get an answer, hopefully someone else will. :)
Permalink Reply by Joni on February 3, 2013 at 8:40am they said I had hypo in the hospital but my regular doc said no...mine has been apparently going back and forth a lot between hypo and hyper which is why sometimes I feel like typing a lot and other times I feel like I can't hardly move!
my tests are saying that I have "autoimmune issues" in several areas, but it MAY point to celiac disease or at least gluten sensitivity as why it goes back and forth.
They wanted me to eat more when I was having trouble gaining weight, and sourdough bread made me feel better sometimes, so I tried it...but then began to crave it...which MAY be a sign of celiac or allergy.
It's so hard to read up on stuff and then follow through when you don't feel well or have trouble thinking about it.
I wish you the strength and energy to hang in there! j
Permalink Reply by Baby Peanut on February 5, 2013 at 8:20pm thanks joni, i know all this stuff is so complicated & confusing but, a day at a time right? thanks for your thoughts, i wish you the best as well.
Yes, very informative, Brian (as always!). I appreciate the explanation of "anti-insulin antibodies" as I'd never heard of those, only autoimmune antibodies which define Type 1, so I was confused. I also think you explained the problem with the term "brittle" better than I did!
You very lucky I would only see my endo about every 4-6 mths and I thought that not too bad i only need about 10 -20 min sessions he pretty knoeledgeable just checat takes neesles it had to me thk numers of bgr and then print bllod tests to check my salt level etc although at first i
didnt get why did i have to take needles now it dosnt hurt just vever worn a bikini since
We'd really enjoy hearing what you have to say, Naz, it might help if you Spell Check it because it's nearly impossible to understand!
Is there a spellchecker built into this site, that I haven't discovered yet?
Permalink Reply by Brian (bsc) on February 2, 2013 at 4:37am There is no spell checker that is part of tuDiabetes, but some browsers have a spell check function built in (i.e. Firefox).
What I had been using was my eMail program. Eventually I might install Office 2010 that I bought last year and use that. Does Firefox have a good search feature on bookmarks? I can't search in IE9 to find anything so considering a program that works across all browsers to manage book marks that is relatively inexpensive and the highest ranked. I was a great fan of Netscape as a browser. All my health researching is lost like needles in a haystack and my books need organizing too, so I can give references.
Permalink Reply by Brian (bsc) on February 6, 2013 at 4:25am I would recommend that bookmarks not be used to summarize research. I like to create documents with hyperlinked references as a good way to organize things. This allows searching as well as using cut and paste for immediate use of material.
Good idea for really important topics. What Bill Gates of Microsoft said years ago around 1991-2 was that the reason his operating system wasn't perfect was so that other companies would have something to do to create add on applications. That is just the concept as I don't remember the exact words.
