Permalink Reply by energy on December 13, 2011 at 6:20am yes carbs are especially important for any cardio exercise. im on lantus so i dont know the pump but my sugar levels are in the lower range when i wake up and thats when i workout .. so for me i take in 20 carbs before i workout with egg whites and then start working out then ck my blood about 30 mins into it sometimes soon depending on how hard i workout . your body uses carbs for energy so if i have just proten in the morning before workout i dont have the energy for a hr workout
