TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

So I realize this would only apply to people who are recently diagnosed... but I'm curious as to what the difference was between your diagnosis A1C and your first A1C results after diagnosis?

When I was diagnosed, my A1C was 14. Of course, I knew very little about diabetes at the time... but figured that was pretty bad when I never saw a doctor's chart that went up that high. Three months after diagnosis, my A1C went down to 7. I am curious to know the success that others have had!!

When I was diagnosed, my first A1C was 22 (I'm told infection boosts your A1C rating).
I was let out of hospital at an A1C of 11.
Now I'm at 8.4 and aiming for 7.0 next month.
Then I plan on getting serious about reducing further...

I was at 10. Three months later, at 7. Now (8 years later) at 5.5 to 5.9 - wobble in there.

Keep up the great work! Cutting it in half is fantastic!

I was diagnosed T1 about a year and a half ago at 9%. A couple months later, 5.6% Each subsequent one has been close -5.5, 5.7, 5.8 --I am very obsessed and hard on myself about it...momentarily frustrated about the 5.8% and then realizing, that is STILL good, I probably just "relaxed" a touch from when I was first out of the hospital. Like others said, almost dying can scare you...or the threat of all the complications. When I was in the hospital at diagnosis, the CDE told me all the horrible things that could happen if I don't get it under control. Ha...I had no idea at that moment just how hard that would be.

I eat very low-carb, vegetarian and test often (8-10/day). My Endo says I am doing great...but I STILL have to fight him to write my prescription for enough test strips. Says "keep doing what you are doing" but in the next moment, wants to change it! I know having "good control" is not all from one thing, but I really believe testing frequently is HUGE.

Good luck on the next one. :)
