TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

Hey guys - I'm doing some research for Amy Tenderich's blog on drinking and alcohol, and I was wondering if you could share with me your tips and suggestions for handling alcohol with your diabetes. Do you drink certain kinds of beverages? Skip it entirely? Eat pretzels? Test a million times?

Whether you're type 1 or type 2 I want to hear from you! Please respond by tomorrow a.m.!

is it possible that a fast acting insulin like novolog aids in the assimilation of alcohol into the body faster than normal by flipping your body's metabolism switch?

I am 59 . I have been type 1 for 30 years, and have been on the pump for 5 years, CGM for 2 years. I drink everyday. usually 3 scotch manhattans( scotch, sweet vermouth, cherries and cherry juice) in the evening. little or no impact on my BG. Sometimes it will raise my BG 30 to 50 points. i also drink Miller Lite when playing golf or fishing.(4 to 6). Lite beer has no impact on my Bg. Wine and other whiskeys don't effect my Bg. Really sweet fruit drinks do raise my Bg significatly so I stay away from them. Bob
