TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

Hi i'm hoping someone has some leads for me.
I'm type 1 on synthroid and my body took a divebomb about 4 weeks ago. I am barely making it through a half day of work and am completely exhausted.

My endocrinologist said this to me last week "your labwork looks good and you look healthy. i dont know what else to do for you".

Judging by my symptoms and after a lot of research, i'm pretty sure this all has to do with thryoid and adrenal fatigue.

I'm looking for a new endo- preferably one who is willing to listen to me, treat me like an individual, be an advocate, and be at least open to letting me continue with natural/holistic treatments etc.

I'm in touch with a naturopathic dr. in CA and ive had to take that route because conventional medicine doesnt help me like i need it. honestly it saved my life. I need an endo who is open to that type of thing.

I am willing to travel and if you have any suggestions PLEASE let me know.

I dont know where you are located, and you say you are willing to travel. I would seriously look into the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston Massachusetts. That is where I go and have gone since I was diagnosed when I was 11. They are amazing there. It's like a one stop shop for diabetics. They have a full staff there of Endocrinologists, eye specialists, phychiatrists, nuerologist, nutritionalists, exercise physiologists, and kidney dr's as well. They also have an affiliate podiatrist dirctly across the common from them at BIDC (Beth Isreal Deaconess Center)

However, I have found similar issues with Dr's after leaving Mass for short times. They look at it as "If it's not broken, dont fix it" Basically if the labs are good, things are good. I would set up an appt with one of the endocrine nurses. Preferably the head nurse of the whole place. That is what I have had to do in the past, and they tend to listen more and suggest other things to help. Good Luck!!

update!
i'm back in FL now. energy still isnt good but it's better than when i left for MO.
I saw my endocrinologist last week and he gave me an acth test which basically tests to see how fatigued/ or shot my adrenals are.
i'm actually kinda hoping they're bad enough to raise his eyebrow to take strong enough measures to fix me!
i also was pretty discouraged to find out there is a shortage of Armour thyroid- i switched from synthroid a couple months ago and it made a huge difference in my energy levels.
anyone else on armour who knows what's going on or what to do about that???
thanks everyone who has posted on this discussion- i appreciate everyone!

Good to hear from you! Glad you're feeling better, but know you want to feel normal again.

Big shortage of Armour. My mother has been freaking because she can't find any. She lives in NYC & called 30 pharmacies to try to get some. I don't know the whole story, but Armour changed the formula & this has adversely effected many people. There also seems to be some sort of effort to stop the selling of natural thyroid supplements. Big pharm stikes again!

Check out this site: www.savenaturalthyroid.com. Think that's the address.

Spoke to my mother today & she'll be getting Armour in Oct. Guess it's back in production & there's a wait. She's upset because it will be the new formula that people are having problems with, unless they've gone back to the old formula again. Confusing!

There's another brand of natural thyroid, but it's expensive--of course! Her insurance wouldn't cover it, naturally.
