When I look for recommendations for diet for type 2 and for renal insufficiency, what's good for one seems to be bad for the other and vice versa. I throw my hands up and just think - cook common sense healthy.

But are there good resources about diet or recipes for people with both conditions?

I wish I had a good answer, but I think that you're having difficulty finding a clear answer because the medical community is just as confused as you are. The only diet that I'm aware of for chronic kidney disease is protein restriction (0.6-0.8g/kg body weight). BUT low protein, as you've already discovered, may be at odds with a low carb diet for D. Studies are also conflicting on the impact of low protein, some showing only a small benefit. Sorry, hopefully someone else has more:)
Thank you very much, Tom. In a way, it's good to know that I haven't found an answer because there may not be one rather than I haven't looked hard enough!
