Hello Everyone,

Im very new to this site. But I wonder if anyone here has any issues with depression in relation to their diabetes and life in general. I will be honest with all of you, I am a 24 year old non compliant type 1 diabetic. I have been non compliant for 6 years, I have been a diabetic for 12 years. I think that if I dont take blood sugars or insulin then I will eventually die slowly.......which takes longer than I expected. Anyway I am in graduate school (one more year before completion), I live alone, I have no friends where I live, and no family lives where I live. All I do is go to work and go to school. I dont know what my future plans are. Im not passionate about anything......I have no boyfriend, no career, no children.....I having nothing to look forward to anymore. All of you seem to be so positive.....I wish you all the best.

Until next time......

Congradualtions on your new baby and your positive outlook on life. I dont know what your life has been like having to live with diabetes, but Im sure that my life and yours have been very different......yes you have lived with diabetes longer, but our expereinces with diabetes have been very different. Because you have not experienced depression, I dont think you can relate to what Im going through.......depression plus diabetes is a dangerous combination. Thank you for yor advice........Hope all is well
How are you today Samantha? Hope and pray you are feeling better, my dear. we care about you here.

God bless,
Brunetta
Hi Brunetta, Im okay.....Im doing as good as I can hope for right now. Still in school, still working, just the same ole thing. This depression is really keeping me down, I was never depressed in college....although I still was not taking care of myself then...but I was happy, I had friends that were around me. I dont have any friends or family here in florida. How have you been? Hope all is well

I want to feel better I just dont know where to start
Annette- I am sorry that you are having a hard time and I hope that speaking with new people who have a similar situation will help you. I have also struggled with depression in the past. I am glad you are reaching out and everyone has given you such wonderful advice. I am also a student and at a similar age where friends are hard to come by. You can see by how many people have already reached out to you and by coming on the site you have done something wonderful for yourself. Being diabetic in itself can change our moods at any given moment because of frustuation o elevated blood sugars. In the past, I have struggle with checking sugars and wanting to avoid my diabetes, but over time I realized it doesn't help. It makes it hard that you are away from family but you seem like a wonderful person and I think if you look around you have more of a support team than you think! over time try new things that is my best advice, and you will realize what makes you happy! What are you studying in school? take care and stay strong!!!
Thank you for those encouraging words. I am finishing my masters degree in Mental Health Counseling/ Marriage & Family Therapy. Its a dual masters program. What are you studying?......Hope all is well
you are very welcome i just want you to know that with the things you are struggling with, you are NOT alone. I am sure you can now see that through all the responses you are getting! that is so wonderful you should be so proud of yourself!! i am currently finishing up my bachelors in childhood education, im running a bit behind in school because i changed my major so many times. i hope to go right into my masters in special education. to feel better just think of it one day at a time, whether you are checking your sugars or taking your insulin if you make small changes you will see a huge difference in relation to the high sugars affecting your mood. when my sugars are high its terrible everyone around me knows something is wrong, i tend to get very frusturated and angry, it is also hard for me to concentrate on my school work. although you dont know a lot of people in your new area take advantage of school! maybe you can meet some new people there and just because you dont know what your future plans are right at this moment doesnt mean that wont change at any time! stay positive, you seem like a wonderful person, hang in there things will get better.
