I thought the thread, despite the disparate nature of some of some of the sub-threads, was a very nice way for the community to get together. I liked hearing from the people who posted that they were coming back after being gone. I don't quite see meandering disparity conflicting w/ the vales if people are getting together? *puts helmet on*

The only references of previous members on the thread have been posted by members outside the admin team. We are not giving away any information on people who are no longer on the site, therefore we are not violating their privacy.
I thought we could *like* comments? LOL...I agree the admins are nice and didn't want to rile anyone up but I think the topic of people leaving whether its because of a fracas or because they just wander off is interesting and I was genuinely intrigued by some of the people who came back to the other thread?
Acid- Yes I was actually really surprised to see members coming back from the past and stating how they have been busy etc., I actually expected some type of thank you (slightly :P) for contributing to making members come back from the past. Can anyone else do that? I wonder how those members that posted for the first time in months or years feel to come back only to have the thread locked?
I don't believe the thread was locked because of the mention of past members names or any other reason that has been stated such as "going in circles". I think it has become obvious why the thread was locked.
If you (the admin team) were there to protect the names of previous members, than answer this...

When a thread AKA topic is started any member that for example uses really bad language gets that specific response deleted. The whole discussion should not suffer because a few people mentioned a few names. You know how to delete a "specific response" without "locking" a thread. I am not on the admin team but I know you can delete certain responses without "locking" the whole topic. It's unfair and we know it. There names ARE still there in a locked thread??? If you were there to protect them than you would delete their names from the thread and UNLOCK it. And the more you make excuses and try and come up with other reasons you locked the thread, the worse it reflects on the people running this site.

Every thread on Tudiabetes wanders and they don't get locked.
Now that I said that will this get deleted or locked?
No, but if you disappear we'll know what happened.
;)
Mikey,
You are free to believe that if you want. We have posted numerous times the reasons behind the closing of the thread.

I answered your other question here:

Manny-
You (and or admin) say the thread was "wandering" or "going in circles". Compare that statement to a thread called "3 word story" which has little to do with diabetes and is all about "wandering"??!!

Also you talk about privacy of members (or ex-members?) but at the same time it is against the TU policy rules to delete certain replies about certain members names (screen names) in order to preserve the entire topic.

I'm not trying to start an argument. I am just trying to learn from mistakes. That was my intention of starting the original thread. I hope there is something to learn here. I was trying to figure out why people leave the community and what we can do to stop that from happening. Now I feel by getting the topic locked it will only make even more people want to leave Tu from the actual "locking".

This topic has 8 likes and counting....

The original thread is here -> http://www.tudiabetes.org/forum/topics/why-do-tu-members-leave-the-tu

So many people would be happier if the original thread was unlocked. If it was unlocked this whole time it would probably already be in the history so far nobody would look or post. By locking it, now it has gotten more attention.
The "3 word story" thread is for us to laugh at. Please!!! We need to laugh at things every once in awhile.
Doris just replied to your first point: indeed the 3 Word Story is MEANT to go around in circles. Hence it falls in the "Community Games" category of the forum. It's by no means the focus of the community or something we'd promote on the home page with a banner.

I am not sure what you mean by this:
"it is against the TU policy rules to delete certain replies about certain members names (screen names) in order to preserve the entire topic."

We try to maintain a certain environment and uphold certain values in order to keep the community strong. This is what we've been doing since the beginning and we've learned more and more over time. The guidelines and the values have evolved and gotten more and more specific as a result of the lessons we've learned.

Why do people leave (or become silent)?
There are lots of reasons, many of which have been stated. They get busy. They found what they were looking for or have learned what they came here to learn. They simply do not participate as much, but they are listening, etc.

Why do people get banned from the site?
Because they do not abide by the values of the community.

I think a very interesting discussion to have is: Why do people keep coming back? About 50% of the visitors to the site (this includes members and non-members) are returning visitors.
In fact, I just started a topic to talk about this:
http://www.tudiabetes.org/forum/topics/why-do-you-come-back-to
Holy cow, why didn't I think of that(?)! Thanks Manny!
Wow, Robert. I do believe you are hoping to get banned. Go for it, if that is what you need......
