I'm a 19 year old student from the UK and as many of you are thinking when you read this I should be boozing it up every night.

I'm diabetic (type 1 for ten years this year) and admittedly a large part of my dislike for drinking stems from this. I don't do enough of the stuff to learn how to manage drinking and diabetes all at once cos it lowers my bs and then raises it and then lowers it blah blah blah - it's a whole lot of hassle :S

I'm not looking for advice about drinking cos I'm just not that into it - I can't be bothered and it doesn't taste so nice anyway :)

I am looking to see if anyone out there with big d is like me and avoids the stuff or if I am just as abnormal as I've feared. A lot, and I mean a LOT of my friends drink all the time and I'm just feeling a little bit alone. Without an ally so to speak.

anyone is welcome to post - just something to reassure me that I'm ot crazy and not completely alone in this :)

xx

I drink occassionally (meaning wine with dinner, not partying ;) ... ), but I HATE feeling even a little tipsy because it feels the same as a low to me!! Given that I start feeling tipsy by the end of the first glass of wine, I rarely drink more than that!
I used to drink. I quit completely the day I was diagnosed. I just didn't want another complicating factor in a very complex problem.

Cheers to you, me and us who don't drink!
I'm a depressed drunk... and I'm a pessimist by nature so making myself more so is NOT a good thing :) I got smashed at 18 once (it's legal in the UK to drink by 18) and did NOT like it.
I got a shard of glass about 1cm in length in my knee that I didn't realise was there for a whole week - a REALLY big error in judgement on my part. It took forever to heal (as all diabetics are aware can happen) - it did help to confirm to me that I never wanted to do it again any time soon! :)
I'm a depressed drunk and being a pessimist by nature it doesn't help my any lol :D
I did get smashed when I was 18 (legal in the UK but obviously not advisable cos of what happened when I did get drunk) I slipped and got a shard of glass in my knee that I didn;t get removed untila week after it got in there cos I didn;t realise. It took FOREVER to heal and meant a lot of hassle. It did help confirm however that I'm not doing that again and that what I thought before I got drunk was correct - it's a dangerous waste of time :)
I used to drink all the time - getting slammed was a part of life. But that was back when I was young, dumb, and bullet proof. I was also a jet engine mechanic in the Air Force, and we had a reputation for working hard, and partying hard. Woke up one day, though, and couldn't remember what all we had been doing the day before, and decided to give a pass. I have a beer now and again - but it's "a beer," not a case. This was long (20 years) before I was diagnosed as a T1 (May of last year). I enjoy have the occasional beer - but as far as drinking to drink - why pour poison into your system? It's a waste of time and effort.
I don't like drinking either. I'd rather have an insulin reaction. I might have a couple social beers--that's it.
