Ever get good and mad at somebody who doesn't know a thing about "D"? I'd like to read a few dumb statements. I would like to collect them, print them out, and give 'em to those folks. Recently I had a relative who said "drinking Coca-Cola every day will give you diabetes" huh? wha? yeah, right! Keep it clean; children read these posts too.

Recently had a joint specialist Dr. Notice my insulin pump and confidently remarked "you must have really brittle diabetes to need that.".

I ignored the line of conversation entirely.

Also a dental surgeon once told me to take out my pump the night before a wisdom extraction. *laff*
I didn't return to either of these Doctors.
I recently went to a regular doctor and she asked me how my bloodsugars run and I told her that just because I'm on the pump that doesn't mean that my numbers stay between 80-120 and I do also go up to 250 or 350 sometimes for no reason other than because I chose to skip the gym or my site needs changing or just because , and she responded with a puzzled look like she didn't understand why the pump alone doesn't perfect everything . Just to think that she's completed 8 or more years of school but I've completed 22 1/2 year living with type one diabetes

Diabetes only happens to those who are overweight!
I know someone who is Diabetic, he looks fine, why does he worry so much?

Here is a good one. My husband has had diabetes for 51 years, pretty good shape. Works out, eats low fat meals. My overweight friend tells me "Diabetics should always eat whole grain". Other people have said "should he be eating that piece of cake"?
.......

It's a sugar free apple pie you can eat a big piece...Yummy...;-(

Pie.............ah yes, that reminds me ...
20 years ago when I was diagnosed with T1, my doc sent me to the usual newbie class to get educated. I swear, as the "teacher" assumed her position at the podium, these were the words she spoke:

"Don't worry! After taking this class, I promise you, you will be able to eat a piece of pie once a month!"

I snuck out the side door during the first break.

I just love reading everyone's answers. I got a new one the other day. Someone who knows me well said "You should eat xxxx. It's high in Omega3s". Ah, what's an Omega3? This person had NO idea what it is. Another comment for the list.

Not going all the way back to see if this has been said already...
"If you lose weight your diabetes will probably go away." My BMI is 24.something, and I'm LADA. Soooo bugs me. Does anyone know of a good, concise, easy-to-read explanation that includes the genetic factor in T1 & T2?

Here's a few...relating to type 1, ..."you can't eat that candy, your diabetic"
.." your diabetes was caused by all that Halloween candy you ate when you were a kid".
