Saw a new Endo yesterday. Happy because she's in the same town - don't have to drive far. But the urine tests didn't come out well.

MICROALBUMIN, URINE 4.4MG/DL
CREATININE, URINE 42.7 MG/DL
MICROALBUMIN/CREATININE RATIO, URINE 103.0MG/G

Expecting a follow up call from her today for further testing. Anyone have experience with how off these test results are? They were marked as high, and I've been having some problems with swelling in my hands and feet, so I'm expecting some follow up.

I won't really comment on the urinalysis because especially with creatinine, it is your blood level that is more important. What I can tell you is that with modern knowledge about diet and drugs (ace inhibitors are the gold standard) it is often possible to arrest the progression of kidney damage. Don't be surprised if your doc wants to put you on a bp med (an ace inhibitor) like lisinopril in a small dose even though you don't have high bp. These drugs have been shown to stop the progression of diabetic kidney damage.

As I said, your blood levels will actually tell more than the urinalysis, but try not to worry too much. From what it looks like, you are still in early stages and much can be done. I started with protein in my urine in the 70s, started on the very first ace inhibitors in the 80s, and didn't end up in real trouble until the year 2001. So I have a lot of experience so feel free to ask me questions. Keep us posted on what your doc says and best of luck.
