This is a recurring discussion here, but perhaps worth re-starting what with so many new family members since the original. I have tons, like most of us. Here's one that inspired me tonight:

...the moral test of government is how that government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; those who are in the shadows of life; the sick, the needy and the handicapped.

---Hubert Humphrey as he left Washington, DC in 1977.....

Acid: Love that Shakespeare quote! Judith: so true-big blue test.
" truth is fire, and to speak the truth means to illuminate and burn." leopold schefer
The first reminds me of Jim Hightower's kick-a*ss book "There's Nothing in the Middle of the Road but Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos."

As a retired performer----adore the second and shall have it engraved, though I have been lucky in that department.
A story really, but putting it here anyway LOL
Lord Buddha was visited by a learned man. This man started insulting Buddha and continued doing so for a long time. Buddha showed no emotion. This made the man angry and asked Buddha why he remained unaffected. Buddha said to him " Sir, you are trying to give me something and if I do not want to take it, how can I have any joy or sorrow about it." If people insult us, it is up to us to accept the insult or not do so.
Lovely. Really lovely. Especially for those of us with some deep, dark past self-loathing issues that we are still working on......
To dream of the person you want to be... is to waste the person you are.

The beauty of this quote is it works in accepting self and others.
