There's a site that offers free online University courses, including several excellent nutrition related subjects that would be of interest to anyone wanting to know more about managing diabetes.

I am going to do nutrition, the one about the universe, and the one on drugs and the brain too. The next time my doctor prescribes me another drug, maybe I will know of a food that will help instead, when he gets mad, I can quote to him the intricacies of of the universe and really freak him out!
In addition to the benefits of increased knowledge that you mentioned, I am a strong believer that as far as the brain goes its 'use it or lose it'.
