I guess someone from Diabetes Daily is going to try this diet: http://www.diabetesdaily.com/simplycooking/author/Elizabeth/
I will be interested to see how she does! I need to do something....!

Elizabeth Edelman appears to be trying it because she is a self-proclaimed "carb addict" and doesn't want to give up carbs in the long-term. The diet basically starts you off with the "attack" and then moves you eventually to eat "whatever you want" as long as you do an "attack" day or two every week.
I have to say that the diet itself is a bit dangerous. The "attack" phase is essentially an all protein low fat phase. There are 100 allowed foods, the first 72 of which are all meat, seafood and no fat dairy. And then there are a few veggies. This phase can result in Rabbit Starvation, essentially an acid state sets in within days and can kill you within a couple weeks. In addition, your body can only process perhaps 300 g of protein per day, which corresponds to about 1200 calories, so you will restrict calories. It is perhaps not surprising that the diet can cause marked weight loss.
I know it is harsh, but this approach may not be much different than skipping insulin to achieve weight loss.
