I was diagnosed with type 2 in February and so far on Metformin twice a day, low carbs and exercise, I've managed to get my BG pretty much in hand...asssuming I am shopping for and cooking my own meals or eating specific entrees at the several local restaurants I've determined don't spike my BG.

However, this AM my other half forwarded me an email from his uncle in Taiwan. This uncle is getting married in May and my other half's 90 year old grandmother (who he hasn't seen for 30 years) has expressed a "last wish" to see all her granchildren at the wedding.

So it looks like we will be going to Taiwan for a week in May. And the thought of trying to keep my BG on track with the time zone difference and a restaurant/other people's cooking diet scares the heck out of me. Not to mention the airplane/airport food.

Any tips/tricks will be appreciated.

There will be food shops you can use in Asia. Their food is readily recognisable. I admit airline and airport food is scary, even thought it was scary when I was not diabetic.
We did a 12 day trip to Argentina last year. I brought a lot of low carb energy bars, nuts, low carb crackers with me to munch on during the flight. There is D friendly food at airports, you just have to look. The food on the flight was not very D friendly. If possible buy something in the airport and bring it with you. As far as meals in restaurants I did my best. My bgs ran a little higher, but without my own kitchen what could I do. I did try to walk more. I'm sure you will be able to find lots of veggies and meats there you can eat. Just stay away from the rice and sauces.
For the plane trip bring with you a big bag of beef jerky, mixed nuts ( make your own mix without cashews and peanuts as they are little higher carb). For drinks get diet pop, water or tomato juice/bloody mary mix. Opt for an entree that it more meat and veg rater than all mixed up like lasagne that way you can just eat the meat and veg and not anything else. While you are there eat mostly meat and veg and try to stay away from the rice and goodies but it is just one week so enjoy yourself and work off the extra carbs by dancing your socks off at the wedding! If you fall off the wagon you can regain control when you are back.
UGH. Well, pack lots of snacks that work for you and maybe just order lean meats when eating out?
