I was wondering because coffee always raises my blood sugar a good 60pts sometimes more and the creamer is the only thing that could have carbs. I can alway count on the spike after my cup or two or ten at work. I normally just correct with ezbg since I have no clue how to count for it. the creamer i use at home has nutrition facts but even it raises my sugar more than that ammount of carbs would typically if it was in food. maybe coffe does raise some peoples bg on it own. i have no clue but i dont like having to wait until it has spiked to correct it.

It's probably the coffee itself! Coffee messes with your cortisol levels, which can spike your BG. I know that I have to take a full unit for coffee, regardless of whether or not there's anything in it.
I believe caffeine helps to release glycogen which will also raise glucose levels. I also have to bolus for coffee even without creamer.
I never knew caffeine can raise blood sugar. I seriously LOVE this site. I have learned so much in just a few days from reading these posts. YOU ARE ALL AWESOME!!!
In addition to the caffeine factor, non-dairy creamers are made from hydrogenated oil (not healthy), corn & corn syrup. I use heavy cream because the little needed for coffee has hardly any carbs.
Yep, these non-dairy creamers are full of carbs.

I use high fat cream in my coffee as well, but I still treat a cup of coffee as if it was 10g of carbs (even though it technically has less since I use a small amount of high fat cream). The caffeine raises my blood sugar as others have suggested.
I am very lactose intolerant or i would use real cream i definately prefer the taste.
I stopped taking coffee for the same reason. My BG would just go crazy. I noticed this with everything containing caffeine even a black tea. I think it is because the rebound hormones that counteract insulin are stimulated by caffeine. I read a several papers on this and it seems to be scientifically confirmed. I had terrible withdrawal headaches for 2 weeks then they stopped and my BG never went up so high after that.
so glad to read this! i notice a 70-90 points increase with a cup of coffee and i was using splenda, and the half&half says 0 carbs. thanks for this usefule info :)
I've got a slightly off-topic question for you guys... I was always taught that 1 carb = 4 calories. But I'm looking Sobe vitamin water I bought today, and it says it has 6g of carbs but has zero calories. Oh the confusion
Strange. I wonder if they are not required to list the calories if it is below a certain amount?? Maybe 24 calories don't need to be listed? I know the same rule that you mentioned.

Thats the exact drink I had... and as you can see, 0 calories but 6 carbs. Strange isn't it?
The FDA guidelines are here (search for rounding). Any calories over 5 calories needs to be listed.

I just found that Splenda and perhaps other sweetners have no calories, but do have carbs. So it is probably from no calories sweetners, which makes this a pretty high carb beverage!

Here are the ingredients:
FILTERED WATER, ERYTHRITOL, NATURAL FLAVOR, CITRIC ACID, ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C), XANTHAN GUM, CALCIUM LACTATE, POTASSIUM CITRATE, REB A (PureVia Brand), MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, COCHINEAL EXTRACT (COLOR), VITAMIN E ACETATE, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE, GUM ARABIC, GINGER EXTRACT, DANDELION ROOT EXTRACT, CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, NIACINAMIDE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B6), CYANOCOBALAMIN (VITAMIN B12).
