I try to shoot for no more than 50 gr per meal and shoot for under 200 total per day. But reading in Jenny's blog, I am thinking I should be shooting for less.

How about the rest of you?

I'm too busy to count my food, but I eat very little carb, loads of salads and some meat and dairy. I also like to keep the ttotal quantity small as I have weight to loose, which after 3 years of working at it is VERY slow.
I don't control fats at all. I add cream to the home-made soup we have for our evening meal most days and happily fry eggs and other things.

Hmmm, I haven't read the Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution yet, so perhaps I'm ignorant on what fats do for us. I had my worse spike over one cup of coconut milk-banana smoothie with jelly balls. Might have had more carbs in it than I believed, so I'm not drinking it again although it is soooo delicious.

You note the highest recommended-- what do you consider the lowest carb intake you would recommend, as a CDE? Also-- When testing two hours after a meal, what point is low to the point that I should be thinking "should have had more carbs / or less insulin" Is 75 two hours after a meal too low? Or perfect?

Liberty Supplies now sends you a kit so that you may take your own A1C test at home and send it back to you and the Dr.
Definite candidates would be the banana and jelly balls. Essentially, If it's sweet, it contains carbs, unless you know it is ONLY an artificial sweetener. Bananas, according to my reference book are about 23% carb. Could be more if very ripe.. Being in the Uk, I'm not sure what a jelly ball might be, but it sounds like either candy or a dessert of some kind, so sugar rich?

The Banana Coconut smoothie seems like a big carb party! your banana (as Hana said) is around 25 grams or so depending on the ripeness, there is most likely apple juice @ 10 carbs per 4 oz, plus what ever else. I tend to stay away from most fruits due to the high amounts of sugar in them. Berries are your best bet though.
I'm not sure what jelly balls are made of either. They are found in Vietnamese style smoothies and you are given a very fat straw so you may suck up the balls. I actually did not like the texture of the jellyballs, too much like jellyfish, ha, so I avoided eating them, but sucked up a few anyway.

I figured one cup of the coconut milk-banana might contain one large banana. The coconut milk is more fat than anything else. I had also had a Bahn Mi Thit Nuong (pork & pickled carrots in French bread roll) hmmm, more sinful carbs, but I left off most the bread.
Those are also known as boba. They are tapioca balls and run about 20 carbs a serving. One of those boba drinks will run you about 70+ carbs a serving. Plus the boba takes time to digest. the pickled carrort and pork might be laden with sugar as well. Sounds like quite a meal! =^)
onesaint, thanks for the information! I am adding it to my food diary so I know what the probable carb amount could be. I have yet to find anyone who knows how much carb in pickled carrots. Cucumbers are fine but when we pickle them, we have to limit how many to eat, so I assume it must be the same for pickled carrots.
I agree!!!! Diabetes sure does suck. So over it!

But that what we have and life is so precious and wonderful and we have wonderful people around us to help us cope!!

Stay strong.

Im type 1 and very often skip breakfast. (and Im from Ontario, Canada)

Im just not ready to eat anything until about 10 ish, but generally I wait until lunch at work. I do however have at least 2 extra large decaf teas each morning before I eat..(I wish I had stock in Timmies).
I count the milk for carbs, but I don't have any sweetener in it.
Ive had type 1 for over 35 years and have never been much of a breakfast eater. I pump though, so thankfully, I can set my rates accordingly.

I am a T2, using mainly my diet and my exercise programme to keep my BGs down. Last HbA1c was 5.3% in August this year. I try to keep Bg in the range of 4 - 6(72 -108) I do use 2 x 500mg Metformin per day too. I was diagnosed in July 2003 and am 62 years old and fit enough to walk 4 miles cross country on hills in 1 hour 20 minutes. There's plenty of evidence that "calories in =calories out" doesn't work
