TuDiabetes

Before I joined any of the online diabetes communities I only knew a few people with diabetes in my personal life and most of them were either from High School or much older than I am. So, I was wondering how many people do you know offline that have diabetes? And, I'm curious what community/city/town you live in?

I know a whole "bunch" of people with diabetes actually....family, friends, colleague, 2 students....and members of the diabetes support group which I facilitate!
Some type 1...some type 2....some on diet/exercise only.....some on meds....some on shots....some on the pump. It's amazing how many of us are out there.
I live in south western Ontario....but my family is scattered across Canada.

It's like this...

I was diagnosed 18+ years ago. I met a few T1's at the hospital, but then for the next 17 or so years, I really didn't "know" anyone with diabetes. Honestly, I didn't want to know anyone with diabetes like me.

Then I found tudiabetes.

Now I can happily say I've met more T1's in person than I have fingers and toes. As far as things I've done with my extended T1 family...breakfasts, lunches, dinners, concerts, drinks, coffee, art shows, volunteer work, racquetball, distance running, walks, fitness classes, dancing, surfing, bonfires, wii boxing, hugs and high fives.

But above all things, sharing stories and tons of laughter.

This community is such a blessing, and I'd like to thank all my T1's friends that have taken the time to share a moment with me face to face.

With that said, if anyone out there with T1 diabetes wants to hang out in San Diego or Los Angeles (weekends) and have lunch or whatever, just give me a holler.

Really, it's that simple...I always brake for Type 1's.
