How many Test Strips do you use in 1 month? Just Curious.

I seem to be a compulsive "tester".....I was just wondering if I am "out there" on how many Test Strips I use. I will say about 400-500 a month!!!! I get 300 a month covered on my insurance.

In my opinion if you are on shots (instead of the pump) it doesn't make sense to me to test until you have leveled off.
If, for instance, you tested yourself and (at that instance in time) you were a bit high, and gave yourself some insulin to bring yourself down - But you were actually not leveled off yet, and on your way down - so you just gave yourself too much insulin and now on your way to bottoming out . . . so you eat some to bring it up . . . and it ends up being a roller coaster ride.
Working out is a whole differnt situation.

300 normally--sometimes a bit more if sick

I still use about 400 per month. I can be high and take a correction and in 2 hrs or less I will have a low. Sometimes it isn't that way...but, after 20yrs of this "D" I don't take any chances of running high for too long or going low. Just not comfortable with "Wingin' it".

have you considered a cgms so as to see, quantify trends.

you are watching it like I have to do. My problem is slightly different .

i am t2 and i do not want my liver to be triggered to do glucose add when bg drops 70 and lower. i watch and keep bg at 100 and higher. i was at 30 strips a day supervising the body. now on cgms at 10 strips a day and i do use insulin.

i am 30+ years as t2.

MEDICARE does not cover CGMS & the MINIMED REVEL.so i won't get one when my warranty expires in march 2013 :(

I seem to be forever testing probably average 6 or so times a day depending on how I feel. Roughly 360 strips a month, not including the ones I screw up bot waiting for the machine to be ready, or not applying enough blood!

I use about 300-350 a month depending on how stable my numbers are.

I use or 10 strip each day so that's 300 a month.
if I walk a long distance walking then i use some more may 5 more that day

I was the same way, although I've gotten much better. I use on average 125 a month....
