Hi everyone,
Today is my first day on my first pump. I have the medtronic and use Mio infusion sets. I started on the pump yesterday evening after a week long saline start. I'm still getting used to it, but feel already like I'm doing something good for myself and my blood sugars. Thanks to everyone who helped me make the decision to switch from MDI.
Best,
Kim

Congratulations! You're going to love being on a pump, but there is a steep learning curve. If you don't have it already, get the book "Pumping Insulin" by John Walsh. And don't hesitate to ask questions either here or on the Medtronic group if they are specific to that pump.
Permalink Reply by acidrock23 on December 20, 2012 at 4:08pm Congratulations! I hope you like your pump as much as I loved mine! My doc figured out my doses very close to what they should have been and things really fell into place for me with it, as much because it keeps track of stuff a lot better than I ever did on my own but I find the delivery really smoother too! I still remember my first meal, tacos, 2 hours later being at like 85 or something like that and just going "woah..."
Permalink Reply by SugarFreeOreo on December 20, 2012 at 4:13pm OMG, For my first meal, I ate two tacos last night too and was 99 at my two hour check. I was shocked! Eery coincidence.

Permalink Reply by Stemwinder on December 20, 2012 at 4:34pm Congratulation on your successful start with your pump. I go for pump training tomorrow, I can hardly wait. I've been keeping a close watch on others that have recently started, trying to gain insight from new pumpers. Reading a good start like yours makes me feel good going into it.
Permalink Reply by MyBustedPancreas on December 20, 2012 at 4:48pm I love my pump and it really does help me achieve better control. The square- and dual-wave bolus features have been a lifesaver for me, as has the ability to adjust basal rates overnight to deal with DP. Good luck!
Congrats on starting on the pump.I couldn't believe how well my bloodsugars were after starting on the pump.It also made testing more enjoyable. Before I would go into diabetic comas from too many lows.I am very sensitive to insulin so a little went a long way.I have been pumping for 5 years this February and it was the best decision I ever made.If you don't have it I suggest you get John Walsh's Pumping Insulin. It is filled with everything you need to know about pumping.
