I am dialing in my I:C ratio and I want a longer coverage of
Insulin so.. sometimes I take Humalog and Humulin R at the same dosing
time. But I have been doing two injections.'

So the question I ask this community is.

Can Humalog and Humulin R be mixed safely?

The person to ask would be your local pharmacist. I'd be curious to know the answer too.

Sadly, mixing Humalog and Humulin won't work. First, these are totally separate preparations, so even if they could be mixed, the end result would not be the combined action, rather it would be a distorted smudging of the action.

But the real thing is that Humalog is only recommended for mixing with NPH. Another good pharmacist resource provides a convenient summary of how different insulins may be mixed for injection and pump use. It seems that none of the three major insulin analogs can be mixed with R, they can only be mixed with NPH.

Unfortunately, the only way to get the action you seek is to do two separate injections.

I read the OP's desire, and I thought he wanted a "distorted smudging of the action".

I read the desire as an insulin that started quick (within the hour) but also had a good amount of action 3, 4, 5 hours out. Probably similar to what the pumpers call "square wave bolus".

Thanks Brian (bsc), your answer is what I figured, so it is onward
with multiple injections for this action. Thanks for your response.
