Hi all,
On Sept 5th 2011, I sufferred a heart attack, had stent surgery, and then was told I am type 1 and type 2 diabetic. So as you can imagine, that was one crazy morning. I was 38 at
the time, and weighed 66kg's (145 pounds).
That morning, I had a HBA1c of 12.2%, and an Islet Cell Ab test showing positive.
Since then, I have been full on with deiting (eating small amounts of low GI food, low fat products, high protein foods, lots of fruit and vegetables) and of course taking all my
heart medications. The only insulin I take is 30 units of long acting Lantus, 1 injection per night before bed.
I test my sugar levels every 2 hours or so, and I am 88% within safe range.
Recently I had a full pathology test, which shows my HBA1c of 5.8%, but what i really interesting is my Islet Cell Ab test now shows as negative.
Out of curiosity does anyone know what this means exactly?
Any insight you can provide is most appreciated.
Kind regards,
Ric

In my view, if you ever test positive for one of the antibody tests and display blood sugar problems, you are T1 (LADA). What your future journey in life will be is anybody's guess.
