It seems she claims to have cured her daughters type 1 diabetes with diet. I don't understand how she is managing this. I think a honeymoon period would explain some of it, but that should be over by now. A carb-less existence would help for a while. Those of you with more knowledge and experience please check it out and let me know what you think. Don't worry, I don't think that this would work for us as my 12 year old would starve on this diet.

currently, the only reliable "cure" for type 1 diabetes is a pancreatic transplant
there's a few trials of stem-cell treatments collected from cadavers that shows promise, but they are costly and not yet proven long-term.
It's safer to use your own stem cells from your own body than anyone else's. Your body won't reject your stem cells grown in a petri dish. Forcing stem cells to become new parts of your old body parts is still being researched. And it requires heavy sedation, as the way to extract stem cells is usually from your bone marrow, and then, when enough stem cells are present in the petri dish, another operation to put them into your pancreas. And then hope you have enough to help your pancreas...
That transplant don't always work. I've been there too and after about 2 years the d came back when after taking MANY meds I lived through my 7th rejection episode and the D came back.
If the transplants aren't working, it's because of the autoimmune aspect of Type 1. Your body is still attacking the pancreas, and even if you were to grow a new pancreas from your own stem cells, it still might attack it because of the nature of the autoimmune response in Type 1's. This hasn't been studied enough to guarantee a cure in anyone with Type 1, as stem cell research is still relatively new. But there might be some hope in the future for Type 1's if they study the stem cell research long enough to figure out how to get rid of the autoimmune response as well as grow a new pancreas at the same time. And not put you at risk from dying of a suppressed immune system also.
I don't think they have reliably figured out a way to address the autoimmune aspect of T1D yet. That's the holy grail. Personally, I'm putting my hope in things like the artificial pancreas project and smart insulins. I actually think smart insulins have the best hope (and they seem like they will be the most cost effective). The technology for the artificial pancreas project is there, but it's going to be a long road to get approval from the FDA (and I'm not so sure I want to be so dependent on electronic devices).
Oh puh-leeeze! Nobody with any basic understanding of the disease or science in general can believe this tripe. The "doctors" are scam artists pure and simple. My sympathies go out to the little girl. And may the parents be quickly charged with child abuse when she's hospitalized.
Either a wrong dx or an intresting honeymoon or found the autoimmune trigger before she lost all function. I would like to see he c-peptide. Ijsut afraid that little girls face will be on the news one day from dka.
I didn't see much info at the web site. Mostly it's under construction. Where is the actual diet? I must have missed it.
If you find the link to her blog she talks about cooking with almond flour, garbanzo bean flour, honey and feeding her daughter big bowl of brussel sprouts. It sounds more like a celiac/gluten free diet. She posted recent results of a mail in A1C test from wal mart. which is 5. something. That is the part that I don't get. Either that test is a joke or the kid never had type 1 in the first place. I don't believe your pancreas can heal itself from resting. I've been watching this site for a while waiting for her to say whoops it's all over, and she's back on insulin. Could low carb keep you in that kind of shape for this long?
Her blog is gone now. It has been removed from the web.
Maybe the daughter had type 2 and they misdiagnosed it because she was a kid? The child losing weight would stop most of the effects of diabetes. Also eating low carb would make the D seem to disappear- but that's IF she was misdiagnosed as type 1 when she was really type 2
