Has anyone manage to have a successful pregnancy while on MDIs?

Hi,

yes, I did MDI with my daughter (now 2 1/2). I think my A1C at delivery was about 5.8.
I used 70/30 for that pregnancy and it worked, but it was really hard. I HATE 70/30 with a vengeance and swore never to use it ever again.
Now I am 12 weeks pregnant with my second child (after 18 months of trying and several miscarriages) and doing it again. My diabetes is much worse this time. Am using Humalin-N and Humalog. My A1c when I got pregnant was 5.3, last test a few days ago it is down to 5.1. After higher sugars in early pregnancy my insulin requirements have now dropped to their lowest in ages (even compared to when I was not pregnant) in combination with a lower carb diet.

Expecting numbers to start going up soon as insulin resistance increases.

Hello ladies-

I found this older post recently and I tend to log in and read it daily just for reassurance and support knowing that there are others out there that have gone through the experience I am currently going through.

I am currently 5 wks pregnant with my first baby, have never used a pump, just MDI and have also had the Dexcome cgm for almost a yr (has helped me tremendously with lowering my a1c). Most recent a1c was 6. I have become OCD with the dexcome, constantly checking to see where my sugars are so I can correct if they start to rise, doing up to 8+ shots per day in order to keep my sugars balanced. Doing so many shots does not bother me at all especially knowing the end reward ;)

Super_sally how was the remainder of your pregnancy? By now your little one must be a little over a year. Anything you can share about your second pregnancy? Where you on a pump with your second one or still on MDI?

Hope all you ladies and your little ones are well. Wish me luck on my journey ;)

Congrats for your pregnancy.
I ended well a pregnancy on mdi and now i am pregnant with baby no 2. Everything is well so far.:)
Don't worry, you'll be ok. Just test often.

Thank you for the encouraging words! Your little man is adorable!! And you look beautiful in the picture you have posted from your wedding day!! Best of luck to us both!!

Thanks, you look great too.:)
The second pregnancy comes with fewer worries and i believe that being more relaxed matters a lot.
In the first pregnancy i had moments when i felt i was losing control, but it was ok.
Now i am struggling from time to time wiht some highs (200) that won't come down so easy as they should.
I am 13w and 4d and I never saw numbers higher than 240 (usually 180-200 maximum)this pregnancy.

You seem to have great control of your D. Are you still on injections or pump? How about a continuous glucose monitor? Or do you test like crazy??

I am still on MDI and i test 8-12 times a day.
My last a1c was 5,9 at the beginning of the pregnancy.
Last time i started the preganancy with a 7,3 and got it down to 6,1 and 4,9 at the end.

My baby was born at 37w and 3d with 2,7 kg.

Certainly! I have 2 babies on mdi.

Michaela now 3 1/2, born 7 lbs 3 oz at 38 weeks. A1C at the end of pregnancy was about 4.0 (was on 70/30 at that time).

Lauren now 7 months, born 7 lbs 6 oz at 39 1/2 weeks by cs for failure to progess (nothing to do with D, she was tied up in the umbilical cord and couldn't descend). A1C at the end was 5.6. Used Humalin and Humalog, MDI. Up to 100 units/day by the end. But all worth it!
