In June I lost my 18 year old cat, Lula, who'd traveled with me to Central America and back. I was heartbroken and you all helped me through it with so much love and sharing your own pet stories. I also learned about the Rainbow Bridge, which though I don't really have any after life beliefs gave me a format to use to "talk to Lula" and has helped tremendously!

I was finally ready to adopt again and found my new little boy who I've named Dulce which means "sweet" in Spanish. I wasn't going to get a kitten because I didn't know if I have another full kitten life in me. I realized I was assuming I wouldn't live into my 80s, but thinking about it, understood I shouldn't make such assumptions when so many Type 1's live long and healthy lives!

So I thought since you were all so here for me in my loss, I'd share my new found happiness. While Dulce is never going to be a Diabetes cat, he keeps me from feeling totally alone! I tried to upload his picture directly into the text but it just loaded gibberish. So I attached a file instead. If someone can tell me how to upload an image I'll change it. Thanks!

Zoe,
I picked out Zen at the shelter and they said she was a year old but when I took her to the vet they said by looking at her teeth that she was much younger, somewhere under a year. This is my first cat. I can't believe you have had cats for 36 years! That is really neat.I have always had dogs all my life, but I am finding getting to know my cat really fun,so new and different.
The thing I love about Dulce is that she is such a beautiful color, and her eyes are lovely. Suri had those color eyes. Gold, like they kind of glowed like sunshine.
This must be such a nice time for you, and that makes me happy.

oooh, what a sweetie pie!! enjoy him!!

Thanks, pancreas!

Now ain't he a handsome fellow. He looks like one lucky cat to me.

Gary

Thanks, Gary. My vet staff said that he was lucky to have me for a cat mama, (they saw how hard I worked to keep my Lula healthy)). Today I showed him a doe, when one came close to the back deer and he dutifully sat and watched her until she was out of sight. Cats and deer seem to have an affinity! (or maybe it's me because I adore both!)

I remember the love and care you gave to Lulu and that's why I say he looks like a lucky cat.

Thanks, Gary, that's really nice!

Not only both in northern California and type 1's, but cat people too! After years without a cat in the house, I've had two (brother and sister) for just over 10 years now. They were a feral pair, so it took time to get them to adjust to human attention. All of that is in the past as they're now full time indoor kitties. He's beautiful, enjoy each other, Zoe.

What an elite group, NorCal: Type 1's, Northern Californians and cat people!!

That's great that you were able to make loving cats out of the feral ones. I picked my cat at the shelter by who spent the most time in my lap and asking for pets!

Beautiful boy, and what a lovely pettable coat. YOur selection method sounds perfect. Many happy years to come.

Thanks, Sally. He's very affectionate which is what I got used to with Lula. I'm just your stereotypical older single woman with her cat!

Ooooh, Zoe, "stereotypical older single woman with her cat"!!!!! Oooh, is that code for Crazy Cat Lady? :) Congrats to you both. Dulce is one lucky cat! And I will join you in the NorCal Type 1 with Cats group.
