Now that Lantus debate is on, I am thinking of switching to Mixed insulin. Any thoughts. In the US we cannot customize the mixture as compared to Europe.

Levemir is another basal insulin you could use.

The problem with mixed insulin is that you're stuck with set amounts of basal & rapid. Adjustments can't be made to the , which has a lot of drawbacks.

I was on mixed insulin for awhile and didn't care for it. I felt like I had to eat when I didn't necessarily want to just to keep from having a low.

LIKE GERRI SAID LEVEMIR IS LIKE LANTUS. IF YOU WANT TO COME OFF LANTUS SWITCH TO IT. DONT GO BACK TO MIXED UNLESS THAT WAS THE LAST RESORT ( FOR EXAMPLE THE WORLD HAS FALLEN APART AND NO COMPANY PRODUCES INSULIN ANYMORE AND THERE IS NO MORE LANTUS OR LEVEMIR ON THE EARTH, THEN YOU CAN SWITCH TO STAY ALIVE THAT IS WHAT I CALL A LAST RESORT). LOL IT IS WHAT YOU WANT TO DO THAT COUNTS THOUGH, I JUST DONT THINK YOU WILL BE HAPPY WITH THAT.

My endo said Levemir might have the same risks that have been associated with Lantus since it is also an ananlog insulin.
