TuDiabetes

Hi all...

When I was diagnosed, this was the first place I found. I was kind of drifting as I was the first member of my family (alive, anyway) with Diabetes. I knew nobody else who was diabetic.

What I wanted to do was look for a way to use my software skills to create something online that would benefit myself and others with Diabetes. I went to the Geeks forum, and bounced an idea off the good folks there. What I came up with is my new site, www.hakunasukari.com. It is a free challenge-based site designed to help diabetics by seeing their blood sugar levels versus others. You can form teams to compete against others, or just be a team of one.

At the present time I have someone working on graphics for me, but the site is functional. I just need some people to register, test things out, and provide me with constructive feedback as to how to make this better.

I appreciate your help!

Jax

Hello Jax, thanks a lot for this website - I have just entered all my details and tried it out, and it works well for me. The only thing is that I am used to putting in data the European way, i.e. day before month, and 15:00 instead of 3:00 PM. Also, even though I just changed the timezone on my profile, when I try to put in a reading, it still shows *your* timezone rather than the one I'm in. Otherwise, everything worked great, and I got a neat little pdf file to print off (thanks for not using Excel!). Now I need a team, I guess? I have created one called "Europeans" and thought maybe people will find me and join my team. In the meantime, it would be great if you could invite me to join the one and only team that seems to exist so far, so that I can see how this team-thing is working. Thanks again, I am really excited about this new tool! (having been diagnosed only three months ago, everything is still "exciting" ... ;-)). Take care, Uta

Hi Uta

Thanks so much for joining and providing your feedback.
1) I will see if there is a way to enter Euro time and date and have it store properly. I can look into it this week.
2) Are you referring to the default time that is in the date and time fields when you enter a reading? If so, I noticed it and it is an issue for me to. It is using US Central Time, as that is where the server is located. I need to remove that and can do so tonight.
3) Yes, I will invite you to my team so we can see how it works out. Look for an invitation tonight B-)

Thanks again!
Jax

Thanks for your replies and the team invitiation! I have joined and added some more of my readings, although I think I brought your team's average down by doing that ;-). There is no place where people can see other team members and interact with them, is there? As for 2), yes, that's what I was referring to but don't worry, I am almost never on a computer when taking my readings so I'll usually have to change the time anyway.
May the better team win ;-)))

Hi Uta

1) Unfortunately the display of other team members is a member-based opt-in on the settings page. I designed it this way to offer privacy by default. Basically, the team owner knows who they have invited, but a non-owner would not be known to other teammates unless they check the Display Username to Teammates checkbox on the settings page.

2) I am still looking into the global date/time formatting issue and I think I have a way around it. I will be playing over the weekend.

Don't worry about pulling us down. That is what the site is about. Let me know if you need any tips, pointers, or suggestions along the way and I'll pass them along B-)

Take care,
Jax

Hi Jax, thanks for the information. I adore the site and given it some publicity in my blog...
Also, I think privacy be default is great, so don't change that.

I have one little mistake in "My Readings", maybe you can fix that: the wakeup reading
11/10/2009 07:30 AM 72.0 Wakeup
has placed itself in the middle among the lunchtime readings etc. and even in the graph it comes up as in the wrong spot. No idea why, I have checked twice to see if I haven't put PM instead of AM...

Thanks for all the great work you are putting into creating so much fun for me! :-)
Take care, Uta

Hi Uta

Can you do me a favor? Since I can't see your info by design, can you please delete the offending record and re-enter it to see if it still does the same thing? If it does, then I can take a look at it tonight.

Thanks!
Jax
