We wanted to let you know about an issue that our members have been reporting and let you know that we have escalated it to Ning.  We are working on resolving this issue and appreciate your patience.

When you view your own page, you may see that your custom profile look is gone in favor of the "default" settings for member profiles. Colors, header images, etc. will not look as you have them set to appear. Here is what I am seeing on my own profile.

When anyone else in the community views your profile, however, it will appear with all of your usual custom settings:

Will it ever be remedied....and will it be possible at some point to change the "look"? (not that I have the time right at the moment!)
Well, this sort of weird behavior often pervades complex systems. Sometimes, they result from conflicting requirements and the solution is more complex than ever anticipated.

What really surprises me is that while Melissa has 28 unread messages and that would seem to be what I might expect as Lead Admin, Manny is having some serious issues. Poor Manny has 1627 messages and I don't know how many of you have tried to deal with a "lot" of messages, it can be time consuming.

Perhaps this also gives us a better appreciation for the amount of work that does on behind the scenes. I hope there is some hot coffee at Manny's house. Many thanks to Melissa and Manny.
There happens to be hot coffee back here (I am taking a sip as I reply, BTW). Though I don't mean to diminish the workload that goes with running the communities, if it makes you feel better I can share some tips on things I do with my TuD Inbox:
-On a fairly regular basis, the person messaging me is someone whose email I have at hand. If that's the case, I commonly reply via email.
-Sometimes, people writing to me include their email address in the private message, so I reply to them via email.
-Because I receive email notifications in connection with private messages, the messages that are more of an FYI kind, where people are sharing with friends on the site about something (not unlike blogging about something) I read, but I don't always reply to. These will appear as unread in my Inbox, but I did "open" them in my email.
-And then, of course, there are cases where I simply cannot get back to messages. I choose to live with that as a fact. I am sure if the message is important enough, I will learn about it either through a follow-up message or through someone else that brings the matter to my attention.

So, in short, over the course of the past four years, I have read a big chunk of all messages that have arrived in my Inbox: the # of unread messages displaying in screenshots of my TuDiabetes page just doesn't reflect it. :)
Simple systems are inherently more reliable, but one of the things I like about TuD is the interface, it's got other similar sites beat hand's down. So when these things happen all you can do is work through the fix and hope it doesn't break something else.

I appreciate all the work that goes into keeping something like this running. Thanks to all the staff and volunteers you're doing a great job!
Here we go again huh????? Manny drink that coffee while things here come under sometype of control! LOL!

Thanks Melissa!
Can you guys please let me know if you are seing the issues still or has it gone away?
Back to normal. Thanks.
my page is back to normal
GREAT! I know what happened and it was a mistake we made. So sorry about the scare! :(
I'm back to normal too Manny. Thank you!
Just came home from work.....all is well at this end. Thank you Manny.
By the way....the design alteration was not the end of the world...those things happen :)
I thought it was my face that made my page look not so good. Imagine that. I can now blame it on someone else.
