That's the way mine progressed. Did your Endo tell you how to fight it.?
Ive worked on PCs for about 12 years now. About 3 years ago I started to develop a lot of numbness in my hands and the same sleeping issue as weezie. When I spoke to my endo she argued carpal tunnel although I think its neuropathy. In the last few months, Ive taken my A1C from a 7.6 (and 8.6 a year before) to 5.8. I hadnt really noticed it until reading this conversation, but the numbness seems to be about 30% of what it was 6 months ago. I also have frozen shoulder in my left shoulder and that is dissipating as well (its about 20% of what it was).

Buy the books bsc recommended. They will change your life. Start with Bernsteins book, Diabetic Solution.

I wish you all the best and I know personally after 25 years of poor control, that control is possible and you can attain it. Keep us posted.
I've gotten my A1C down from 14.6 14 months ago to 6 when my last test was done, so I think I have pretty good control.......don't think it's a result of poor control, it's got to be something else.
My only other guess would be C-peptides. But, I dont know of any research other than the Joclyn gold medalist research results.

Im still not producing nor receiving Cpep and my tinlgies have seen to have reduced a lot after about 4 months of tight BGs.
Two type one diabetics I know had numbness and pain in the hands. This made typing very difficult and In one case the person bought foot switches for the left and right mouse buttons on his computer. Both cases were resolved by injecting C-peptides in the form of pork insulin. Even if you believe there are no C-peptides in pork, there is something in it that makes a difference. Both were diagnosed with carpel tunnel and both are pain free.

There are other things that can cause numbness and tingling in the hands. I'm currently doing physical therapy for my neck. I had some serious numbness and tingling down my right arm. It was really bad. I had been diagnosed with CTS/RSI years ago (kind of a professional hazard). I'm still working on my neck but the symptoms were caused by nerve impingement in my brachial plexus. My scalenes are nearly frozen and they are pressing on the nerves going through the plexus. Diabetes is a contributing factor for CTS, so some further investigation may be useful. Have you seen a neurologist?
I have just had CT surgery on my right and my main complaints were from 10 years ago.
I worked as a painter and started to drop my brush !!! I stopped painting and it did get better.
Last few years I have been tested and I was three times past the threshold for Carpal tunnel.

I had NO real numbness like I had before (Hands feeling like baseball gloves in the middle of the night.)

I only had real symptoms UNLESS I my BG was below 4 or 5
I was told I would HAVE to get surgery sooner than later....like10 ten years from now .SO I did it,
now I am told because I am a diabetic it will take.... and IS taking allot longer to heal to a pain free state
I now have ACTIVELY improved my strength to ...Half the strength of my left ,in there grip test .
I am NOT getting my left done for a long while {my choice} :)

Sorry to hear that you are in pain. i too have experienced this pain, in my hands. i found through researching and trying it that vitamin B6 (about 100mg daily) is very helpful in reversing diabetic neuropathy, and protects against peripheral nerve degeneration. Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a very important antioxidant. ALA improves blood sugar metabolism, reduces glycosylated protein, improves blood flow to peripheral nerves, and actually stimulates the regeneration of nerve fibers. Side note, it too can increase insulin sensitivity. A high dose, about 600mg per day, is needed to improve diabetic neuropathy. Also, Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) played a role in reversing my neuropathy, a couple of tablespoons of Flax Seed Oil daily. It took a few days to feel the effects but it sure did ease and become completely better within a few weeks time. i have also given up on eating any packaged or processed foods which has helped me tremendously. Go Organic if and when available. Maybe swimming in a nice cool pool would help?
i remember, for me, the pain would lessen when moving/walking/swimming.
Best of Luck and G-D Speed in your recovery.
Be Well
Peace LOVE & Light
Thanks for all the good advice mates.
