Okay.  Wondering if anyone here has tried the NutriSystem D plan with Type 1 diabetes?  I'm only looking to shed about 10-20 pounds- nothing major... and I hardly ever eat.

Is it worth it for me?

My Triglycerides are actually on the low side.

My A1c could stand to come down- 8.6%

My typical blood glucose readings are between 100 and 200, though there are definitely spikes down to 35 and up to 290.

I typically have a shake for breakfast, no lunch, and then a balanced (low carb) dinner, and maybe a salty snack at night.

I'm not an eater.

Am I going to be bogged down by all the meals they send?

And is $11 a day really that hard to beat?

I guess I'm around $5 for coffee in the morning, plus $6 for dinner (if I go out)... so $11 is good, even though it's including two more meals than I would normally eat?

Has anyone tried this?

I'm not looking to lose weight (if I do, it's a plus, but it's not my main goal).  I'm moreso looking at this as a dietary plan to help me gain control over my BG readings.

Pauly- Is this in response to the NS regular line? Or the NS Diabetic line? They came out w the diabetic line a few months ago? Was wondering if it was worth it to try.

I only have to lose a few pounds- not even for my health, just for my own wants.
Also trying to gain better control over what I eat so that I can control my BG and A1c. Everything else looks ok in my blood work.
If the Schwans guy is in your neighborhood he should have the brochure for you to go through. You can also go on the Schanns web site and they will have a listing. You can compare then between the two; Schwanns and NutriSytems.

I am a stock trader and know they went into partnership with them about a year ago to make Nutri Systems food.

I didn't drill down between the nutris system line and Schwanns. The Schwanns guy just said he carried the lines so I left it at that. I like the Turkey and Vegetables or Chicken dishes from his brochure. I didn't eat the regular line because they would spike me too high. I think you would save some on shipping that way.
hmmmm... interesting. My mom used to order from Schwann's back when we were kids. Was decent food, but she decided it was too expensive? I don't really remember much of it.
The meals must be the portion of airline food, like Lean Cuisine & all those other "diet" frozen dinners. Their "diabetic" line was muffins, scones & pasta. Yeah right, low GI. It's all marketing.

Interesting about Schwanns.

I didn't notice ephedrine in the ingredients, but I only checked out a few meals. I wouldn't think they'd be allowed to add ephedrine without a warning on the label.

I was at first completely OPPOSED to the NS D plan, but after giving it some more thought, it might be a good idea to get me back on track. The link does NOT want you to go on the diet, but I gathered a few side ideas from what she described.

I don't care about taste.
I don't care about portion sizes
I just want stable BG readings.

And no side effects would be nice. haha.
Interesting that you're supposed to add fresh fruits, vegetables & protein to their meal plan.
haha. I know! That weirded me out too. But I guess it makes sense bc how can you possibly keep a month's worth of vegetables fresh in a package? Right?
True! Guess it's more expensive than at first glance since veggies & protein should be added & protein keeps hunger away.

Kind of like stone soup. You know that one? A man says he can make great soup from a stone. He starts off with water & a rock. Gets someone to give him veggies for a bit more flavor. Then has someone else bring him meat & another beans. Stone soup:)
haha. Yeah. We call it "Garbage Soup" because it's when we empty out all the leftovers "garbage" from the refrigerator and put it in the pot to make a soup.

Stone Soup sounds a bit more appetizing though. haha.
My mom called it Clean Out the Fridge Soup.
Hey, I remember that joke... hadn't heard it in a long while. lol
Elizabeth hardly tried the diet over at DD - she meerly tasted the food and objected.

As a type 1 interested in losing weight - I actually was on it for *5* months and did an extensive review here:

http://www.diabetesdaily.com/forum/food-diet/32139-nutrasystem-d-wh...

It's a good diet and it does work.

The BIGGEST negative is that you have to call them by phone to cancel and have to give them a month's notice.

Other than that - it works and is diabetic friendly.

ps. After a week or two on the diet - the taste ends up pretty good. Your senses are overwealmed by the food you are eating right now - on the NS-D diet - I actually grew a taste for their food and it's actually not at all bad. Some dishes are bigger winners than others, however.
